Alexei Makushinsky was born on March 8, 1960 in Moscow. He lives since 1992 in Germany. He made his Ph.D. summa cum laude at the Catholic University of Eichstätt (Bavaria). At the present moment he teaches Russian Literature and Culture at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. For his novel Steamship to Argentina (short-list of the prize Bolshaya kniga and many other nominations) he received the renowned prize Russkaya Premiya (2014). Among his other works are two novels - Maks, 1998 and Town in Valley, 2012, two books of poems and a collection of essays By the Pyramid, 2011.
